Where to begin…

Blown offers blowouts, styles, up do’s, and makeup services. We are an exclusive blowout and beauty bar; we do NOT do cuts or colors. Yes, you heard that right, we focus ONLY on styling hair, and it is our passion.

My name is Andria, I am the owner and founder of Southern Indiana’s first and only blowout/beauty bar salon, known as Blown.  I know I know …a few graphic thoughts, illegal and/or inappropriate images may have run through your head hearing a name like Blown, but let me tell you, the only illegal thing that may be going on here at Blown is our true obsession and love of empowering women through making them feel their very best by helping them look their very best!!  Now my veteran, dear to my heart, high maintenance hair-loving ladies know that a blowout is one of life’s greatest gifts😊.  But if you are like most of America, the concept of a blowout bar may be unique to you.  Blown specializes in blowouts that can style your hair down for a more relaxed casual look or style it in a variety of up-dos or braids.  Whether for a special occasion or simply because you want to indulge in treating yourself, you will walk away feeling refined and refreshed.

Let’s start with an introduction to Blown’s Belles, our very own licensed cosmetologists who will launch your experience with an individual consultation that will help you choose what look you are going for.  Do you wish for more volume? Do you want fewer frizzies?  How about repairing damaged ends?  No worries, after your hair assessment and before you are led to the shampoo bowl, one of our capable Belles will match up your hair needs with our exclusive Living Proof products to help increase your hair’s full potential.  At Blown, with your hair bath you will receive a relaxing scalp massage while having your hair conditioned, a practice you will want to repeat again and again!  We also offer enhancement services that do just that ENHANCE your experience.   So if you opt to extend your scalp massage or even add a hand massage, you may do so at an additional charge.  Your Belle will be able to evaluate the integrity of your hair and provide their enhancement recommendation, which could include a hydrating shot, a detox treatment, and more.  Once your hair has been thoroughly shampooed and conditioned, your Belle will escort you back to her chair where she will get started on making your hair dreams come true, or rather your hair Pinterest projects a reality.

We’ve found our niche and we love a good reason to party!  We host bridal and baby showers, birthday parties [girls 4 years old to 50+ years old] wedding hair, and divorce parties!! Because let’s face it, sometimes a divorce IS a reason to celebrate!! Whatever you are celebrating, we have a party room to accommodate you.

If you still aren’t quite sold on getting a blowout at Blown let me tell you, we are so much more than the exterior of hair and makeup services and parties we offer.  We live and breathe our mission and desire for every person who walks through our door to have fun, feel beautiful, confident, and feel alive & empowered.

The Belles and I have created this blog as a means to spread our mission. We want everyone to know about us because everyone deserves to feel like a queen.  We want everyone to know their worth, to love who they are, and to learn empowering lessons along the way. Our blog will include personal stories of triumph, success, and failures of business and personal life. We will share tips with your hair, makeup, and ALL things beauty!  Stay tuned for next week when Laken talks about the “Great Debate” where she discusses a HOT TOPIC on how often to wash your hair.

Love, Andria

The Great Debate

How often do you wash your hair? The “Great Debate” is one every woman has with her friends at some point in their life.

How often do you wash your hair?

The “Great Debate” is one every woman has with her friends at some point in their life.

I’ve learned after speaking to almost every person whose hair I have done that this is

something you just don’t really learn growing up as weird as it sounds. As a kid you

wash your hair every night or every other, well because you are dirty as all get out!

Especially during puberty, that awkward time no kid likes to bathe. *cringe* YUCK!

But really think about it, why do you wash your hair as much or as less as you do?

Does shampooing daily keep you oily? Does shampooing make your hair dry? The

answer is...depends on who you are and what your hair is telling you!

As a kid and still now I am a super oily person, my whole freaking body! So for the

longest time I shampooed every other day and used dry shampoo or baby powder in

between, dreading those days but too lazy to shampoo. Finally one summer I got the

courage to just LET IT GO. I didn’t do a damn thing to my hair for almost 2 weeks! I

used a lot of dry shampoo, headbands, and hats those days. My results were great

though, I was able to go almost a full week without shampooing. It wasn’t until day 5

or 6 that I was needing dry shampoo. My hair wasn’t visibly oily due to the dry

shampoo, but you know that feeling when your hair starts to feel heavy at your scalp

and it doesn’t move after you pull your ponytail out after a long day? I was there and

after weeks, it was taking a toll on me mentally, I just felt blah. So, I switched up my

routine. For myself, I shampoo twice a week. Once at work where I usually blow dry

and style it afterwards, and then I shampoo on my day off and let my hair dry

naturally and breathe. My oil is still contained. I’m not over shampooing and drying

my hair out. I am not using dry shampoo, not because I hate it, but because I don’t

have too!

The only thing that I can confidently say is, don’t wash your hair everyday! It truly is

making it worse! You are stripping the natural oils from your scalp so in return your

body is over producing to make up for it. Be that as it may you do not have to go 1-2

weeks without touching it like some people swear by. Listen to your hair and if you

need help ask a translator (AKA your hairdresser). Tell them everything you do.

Literally Everything. What’s your daily routine, occupation, products you use, possibly

medication, how you sleep, etc. From this accumulation of information, working

together with your hairdresser you can address and eliminate problem areas. You all

can create a customized routine specific to your needs! You may learn you have to

tweak some things. Hopefully, *fingers crossed* you can find some answers!
